Prospero, the Duke of Milan, and his daughter Miranda are stranded on a mystical island after a political coup orchestrated by Prospero’s power-hungry brother Antonio and Alonso, the King of Naples. In search of revenge, Prospero and his indentured spirit Ariel wreck the ship harboring the conspirators, forcing them onto the island. While Prospero attempts to teach his usurpers a lesson, his daughter Miranda falls in love with his enemy’s son, Ferdinand the Prince of Naples. This contentious play asks us about the nature of revenge. Through a critical lens, The Tempest also asks hard-hitting questions about indigeneity and colonialism.
